Assistant Professor of Music
The Department of Performing Arts in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University invites applications for a one-year appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in Music, beginning fall 2009. Applicants should hold a terminal degree in music with a specialty in any sub discipline; applicants who are ABD will be considered but a completed PhD or DMA is preferred. The position carries a teaching load of six classes per year and the specific courses will be determined based on the candidates specialization and ability to teach in any or all of the following areas: undergraduate ear-training and sight-singing (musicianship), music theory (harmony I & II), and general education classes including traditional western music appreciation courses (such as Masterpieces of Music or Understanding Music) as well as aesthetic theory and criticism (Greatness in Music). Candidates should have demonstrated record of excellence in teaching. American University seeks highly dedic
