Royal Academy of Music online images collection

See the as-yet-uncatalogued but sorted and filed collection of postcards, mostly from La Monnaie or Opera Comique (Paris), and dating from the first years of the 20th century, which we have in our collection.

There are upwards of 800 in total.  All the singers are in costume, but the roles are rarely noted.  This complements a further collection of opera material which we have on-line at:

 www.ram.ac.uk/apollo

including images and over 400 mostly-English 19c playbills.  

The simplest way into the on-line collection is to put the word OPERA into the search-box or select, from the search page, one of the pre-set searches (playbills / programmes).  

We also have a very large run of British and foreign opera programmes.   This material was all collected by the artists’ agent, Norman McCann, and came into the collection of the Academy a few years ago.
