The Department of Music Science and Art of the University of Macedonia,
Thessaloniki, Greece, is pleased to announce the International Conference
"The growth of the art of music in Greece of Europe", which will take place in
the context of May of Musical Methexis 2009. The conference will be held on May
29-31, 2009 in the Concert & Ceremony Hall of the University of Macedonia in
Thessaloniki, Greece. Distinguished personalities of international status have
been invited as main speakers.

The aim of the International Conference is to contribute to the broader
discussion currently developing in Greece and abroad on the study of music in
higher education. The conference will explore the ways in which musical
research and performance can be combined and further developed at the
undergraduate and postgraduate levels, so as to ensure a proficient and
high-level training for musicians. Moreover, the conference will investigate
the systematization of traditional music studies in terms of structure, content
and goals.
