Music,  Assistant Professor, Tenure Track, Amherst College

Full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in jazz and popular music.  Department is particularly interested in scholar-performers of jazz and popular music whose research, creative work, and teaching combines ethnography and historiography with skills in performance and in new media and technologies.  Preference given to candidates able to assume a small portion of the musicianship/theory/composition curriculum.  The department is committed to supporting the integration of performance/composition with related academic studies over a full range of musical styles and historical periods for music majors as well as a wide range of liberal arts students.  The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a pedagogically creative commitment to this integration.  Except in unusual cases, applicants should have a Ph.D. or D.M.A by the time of appointment.
