The Music Program in the Department of Performance Studies, Texas A&M University, is seeking a distinguished scholar and/or artist to fill its Ray A. Rothrock (’77) Chair in Music. The ideal candidate will significantly participate in the ongoing development of the liberal arts-based Music Program, contribute to its national prominence in research and/or creative work, and complement its existing strengths in composition, ethnomusicology, music theory, and performance studies.

The successful candidate for this position will have a cumulative record commensurate with appointment as an endowed chair in the TAMU College of Liberal Arts, including scholarly and/or creative works in the discipline’s most highly regarded venues and, as appropriate for the field, receipt of one or more major awards from highly competitive national or international agencies. S/he will demonstrate outstanding teaching and active engagement in disciplinary organizations.

Academic background required: Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Music, Ethnomusicology, Performance Studies, or related field; start date: September 1, 2009. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Department of Performance Studies is one of twelve academic departments in the College of Liberal Arts. It is composed of two liberal arts-based undergraduate degree programs, one in Music and one in Theatre Arts. Courses in performance studies contribute to both programs. Texas A&M is a Research I university (very high research activity) with an endowed center for humanities research and an Academy for the Visual and Performing Arts.
