Henry and Leigh Bienen School of Music

The Northwestern University Henry and Leigh Bienen School of Music invites applications and nominations for one faculty opening in the Program of Music Theory and Cognition. Start date: September 1, 2009. 

Qualifications:  Required:  Ph.D. in a music theory or other relevant field; a record of excellence in teaching and scholarship as evidenced by publications, conference presentations and other appropriate activities.  Preferred: Candidates able to teach a range of courses in music theory and whose research interests build on or complement the Program's current strengths in historically-informed theory and music cognition.
  
Responsibilities:  Teach upper level undergraduate, and graduate courses in music theory and/or  cognition;  direct dissertations and assist in continuing development of the Ph.D. program; if Associate or Full professor provide programmatic leadership; participation in the activities of a School of Music in a research university. 
Rank:   Open, based on background and experience.  An appointment  with tenure is possible based on qualifications and a satisfactory review through the School's and University's tenure processes.
