NOTICE OF VACANCY

POSITION:   Assistant Professor of Musicology; tenure-track position 

SALARY:  Commensurate with qualifications and experience 

Qualifications:  Doctorate in musicology completed by August 1, 2009 

Evidence of scholarly activity and promise of distinction in  the field 

Evidence of teaching excellence in music history at the college or university level, and the ability to teach world music 

A commitment to working and teaching with colleagues in  the School of Music and across the University in a liberal  arts environment 

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach a two-semester, sophomore-level survey course in Western music history and a variety of additional specialized upper division courses in music history.  Integrate world music into the curriculum. 

Teach additional courses in the all-university general education program, including, but not limited to the campus-wide first-year introductory writing course. 

Maintain an active program of appropriate research activities.  Serve on committees and perform other services for the University.  Willingness to provide leadership with respect to curriculum development. 

APPOINTMENT:  Will begin August 1, 2009 

SCHOOL OF MUSIC: The School of Music, fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music since 1930, offers the Bachelor of Music degrees in Composition, Education, and Performance, the Bachelor of Arts in Music, and an arts management minor offered in cooperation with the Department of Business Administration.  The School of Music has a full-time faculty of 19 and a part-time faculty of 30 who teach approximately 200 majors.
