The University of Minnesota, located in Minneapolis-St. Paul, is a major research university of 60,000 students and nearly 2,500 faculty. The School of Music, part of the College of Liberal Arts, serves more than 550 majors in degree programs from bachelor’s to doctorate. Position: Full-time, nine-month position in ethnomusicology at the rank of assistant professor, tenure track.

Responsibilities: Maintain a research program of professional distinction. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses (including seminars) to be arranged according to the candidate’s expertise and the curricular needs of the School of Music. Advise students and supervise theses and dissertations. The normal teaching assignment is two courses per semester, together with advising, committee, and service responsibilities.

Salary: Competitive, depending on the qualifications of the candidate.

Required Qualifications: The Ph.D. in ethnomusicology (or in music, musicology, anthropology, or a related field, with an emphasis in ethnomusicology) is required and must be in hand by the start of the appointment. All specializations within ethnomusicology will be considered. The School seeks a candidate of intellectual and musical breadth who can augment the strengths of departmental colleagues and has the potential to develop a national/international reputation in the field of musicology.

Preferred Qualifications: A developing publication and research record, as well as a record of successful teaching experience are preferred. Candidates will be reviewed according to the overall quality of their scholarly work, expertise in the field, evidence of commitment to teaching and skills as a teacher, and strength of recommendations.
