The Department of Music at the University of California, San Diego invites applications for a music scholar at the Assistant Professor level (tenure track). A completed or nearly completed Ph.D. is required, as well as demonstrated potential for distinguished scholarship and effective teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels. The successful candidate should have research interests in the role that diverse ethnic and racial groups play in the development of music in the United States and will join our graduate area in Integrative Studies and participate in the California Cultures in Comparative Perspective program, an interdisciplinary research group that focuses on issues of race and ethnicity in California (http://calcultures.ucsd.edu).

Artist - Scholar

The Department of Music at the University of California, San Diego is seeking an artist or artist/scholar with an established reputation whose work will complement and diversify the range of contemporary creative practices explored by the existing faculty. Preference may be given to intermedia artists working with interactive/performative technology or in areas related to sound art and/or improvisation. The successful candidate must engage effectively in a discourse on new media and culture and will join the Department of Music's graduate area in Integrative Studies.

In addition to conducting research, supervising graduate students, and offering innovative graduate courses, this person will contribute to the undergraduate curriculum and fulfill normal service duties appropriate to the position. Applicants should have a terminal degree (M.F.A., D.M.A. or Ph.D.) in an art, music, or science-related discipline and either a successful record of university-level teaching appropriate to rank or commensurate professional experience.

This position has been approved up to the rank of Associate Professor. However, especially promising artists or artist/scholars in the early stages of their career will be given full consideration and are strongly encouraged to apply.
