Ormond Chair of Music and Head of School, School of Music, Faculty of the VCA and Music

The University of Melbourne Australia is creating a new Faculty of the VCA and
Music in 2009 which will bring together the existing Faculty of the VCA and Faculty
of Music. The new School of Music is being created to combine the strengths of the
two faculties in the discipline of music and will be one of three schools within the
new Faculty. The School of Music will be the most comprehensive music school in
Australia and will be home to over 1,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The University is seeking to make a continuing professorial appointment to the prestigious Ormond Chair of Music,
with the applicant simultaneously holding a five year appointment as Head of the School of Music.
The successful candidate will have international standing in the discipline of Music, a proven track record of
leadership and management, and a proven capacity to shape the future of the discipline of music.
The Council reserves the right to make no appointment or to fill the Chair by invitation at any stage.

Salary: An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated including 17% employer superannuation.

Employment Type: This is a full-time (continuing) position with an appointment for 5 years in the first instance.
