*Call for Papers*

On 24 November 2009, Alfred Schnittke, the most prominent Russian composer in the second half of the 20^th century, would have celebrated his 75^th birthday. To mark this memorable date, the Deutsche Alfred-Schnittke-Gesellschaft e.V. (DASG), founded in 2007 in Hamburg, the place where Schnittke spent the last eight years of his life, is going to publish an essay collection in memory of Alfred Schnittke's life and work.

For this purpose the DASG is announcing a Call for Papers. Abstracts of ca 250 words are welcome. Topics include, but are not limited to, the following subjects:

-Biography
-Creative periods and styles
-Schnittke as a film composer
-Schnittke as a theorist and music philosopher
-The reception of Schnittke's music in the Soviet Union, the East and the West
-Interdisciplinary aspects (e.g. sociology of music, philosophy of music etc.)
-Schnittke in the context of his contemporaries in the East and the West
-Schnittke's legacy and his music in Russia and beyond

Any other contributions to Alfred Schnittke's person and music are welcome. Furthermore, we emphatically encourage young scholars to submit their abstracts. Contributions written by PhD students and/or post-docs are most welcome.

The deadline for the submission of abstracts is 1 November 2008. After reviewing the abstracts we will contact the authors by e-mail. The final due date is 15 February 2009.

Abstracts as well as articles must be written in *German*.
