The Department of Music at the University of York (UK) together with
Music Preserved announce a fully-funded collaborative PhD
studentship, commencing 1 October 2008. The Studentship is part of a
five-year AHRC-funded project, 'The Music Preserved Sound Archives:
Expanding Resources for Research in Performance'. The archives offer
researchers performance-based audio resources that extend across many
genres and styles, focusing on recordings of live performances, made
on-site or from broadcasts.

We seek a student researcher interested in exploring a specific
aspect of the collections, interrogating the archives from
musicological vantages that will produce research outputs of service
both to the research community and to the general public. The student
researcher will spend sixty working days p.a. cataloguing Music
Preserved recordings, for which s/he will receive specialist training.
