ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

TEACHING MUSIC HISTORY DAY 2008

The Pedagogy Study Group of the American Musicological Society, in conjunction with the Midwest Chapter of the American Musicological Society and the Music Department at DePauw University announce the fifth Teaching Music History Day, to be held Saturday, September 13, 2008, on the campus of DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana.

Teaching Music History Day is a “Study Day” for anyone who is teaching or considering teaching music history, regardless of disciplinary training.  The theme for this year’s event will be “Bringing Music History Into Focus” and will included sessions on Teaching Music History When Trained in a Different Discipline, The Challenge of the Performing Student, and Music History for Graduate Students.

The program committee (Mary Paquette-Abt, Adriana Ponce, Anne-Marie Reynolds) welcomes proposals for all sessions, but particularly talks or interactive presentations on teaching music history for graduate students whose main focus is not musicology.  Proposals are due Friday, August 1, 2008.
Please submit a brief 250-word abstract via email (in the body) to
<m_paquette-abt at wayne.edu>. You will be contacted within two weeks to let you know if your proposal fits into the schedule.

We encourage your submission of ideas and proposals, and hope that many of you will plan to attend what we hope to be a day of group participation and discussion.
