Forum on Music and Christian Scholarship

Annual Meeting

Feb. 27–28

University of Notre Dame

The Forum on Music and Christian Scholarship seeks proposals for its upcoming annual meeting, which will take place at the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, IN, from February 27th to 29th, 2009.

Notre Dame’s Department of Music has about 85 undergraduate majors and 12 graduate students in its Master of Sacred Music program, with 15 full-time faculty members. More information on the department may be found at http://music.nd.edu/about/welcome/index.shtml .

The Forum especially invites proposals for a special session fashioned around the issues raised by Karol Berger’s book _Bach’s Cycle, Mozart’s Arrow,_ particularly his description of the period beginning with the late 18th century as “post-Christian” and his view of the theological significance of musical time, to be followed by a full plenary discussion. At the same time, we welcome proposals on any topic related to music and the study of Christianity; approaches and perspectives such as history, theory and analysis, philosophy and theology, ethnomusicology, critical theory, and the like are all welcome. Papers should be approximately 25 minutes long.

For more information about the FMCS and about previous conferences see the organization's web site, http://www.fmcs.us .

Please send an approximately 300-word abstract including your name, institutional affiliation, and contact information to the Chair of the Program Committee:
