Messiaen 2008 International Centenary Conference
Birmingham Conservatoire, UK, 20-24 June 2008

Booking is now open for the Messiaen 2008 International Centenary Conference. 

Keynote addresses will be given by the noted American musicologist Hugh MacDonald, and the composer, and former Messiaen student, François-Bernard Mâche.

The international line-up of speakers includes many leading Messiaen specialists as well as scholars in broader musicology, notably Vincent Benitez, Jonathan Bernard, Jean Boivin, Siglind Bruhn, Christopher Dingle, Robert Fallon, Peter Hill, Christoph Neidhofer, Roger Nichols, Raffaele Pozzi, Caroline Rae, Rebecca Rischin, Andrew Shenton, Robert Sholl, Nigel Simeone and Philip Weller.

The conference features four concerts of music by Messiaen:
     an orchestral concert at Birmingham Town Hall
     a mixed recital featuring Peter Hill alongside Conservatoire students
     a rare chance to hear the hour-long song cycle Harawi from German
     soprano Sigune von Osten
     a performance by Dame Gillian Weir of the organ cycle Méditations sur
     le mystère de la Sainte Trinité at St Chad’s Cathedral.
