University of Toronto Music Graduate Student Association Conference 2008: Call for papers
Exploring Alliances in Musical Performance and Music Scholarship

The University of Toronto Music Graduate Student Association is pleased to host our annual conference March 14th and 15th, 2008. This year’s conference highlights the created alliances within and between art forms and disciplines, with a particular focus on music performance. Papers may explore new areas of research, or revisit old ones. We encourage submissions from graduate students in musicology, ethnomusicology, theory, education, performance, and composition. We welcome proposals for lecture-recitals in addition to conference papers. Renowned Canadian musicologist and composer John Beckwith will deliver this year’s keynote talk.

Participants and attendees will also take in a performance of George F. Handel’s Ariodante, an opera concerned with issues of alliances, by the Faculty of Music’s esteemed opera program as part of conference activities.

Please submit a proposal of no more than 500 words by 4 February, 2008 either online at our conference website (http://uoftmgsa.com/index.asp), or by mail at the following address:
