The focus of Lyrica's 2-3-day seminar at the 2008 ACLA Conference (www.acla.org), "Music, Text and Memory" (Long Beach, CA, April 24-27, 2008) has been expanded to include topics related to the music of war and alienation. Papers may focus on works inspired by these phenomena, on the collaborative process between author and composer that led to their creation, on a particular historical period that generated such creativity, or on works created with the specific intention of assuaging the psychological effects of war and alienation.
Interested musical and interdisciplinary scholars are invited to submit abstracts -- up to 500 words in length -- to me directly, copied to
lyricasociety at aol.com, with ACLA in the subject line.
The deadline is January 15; there is a little flexibility here.
