June 4-8, 2008
The Juilliard School
60 Lincoln Center Plaza, New York, NY 10023
Host: The Music History Department, The Juilliard School: L. Michael Griffel, Chair, Fredric Fehleisen, John J. H. Muller, Anthony R. Netz, Joel Sachs, and Martin Verdrager
The CMS/Juilliard Institute for Music History Pedagogy will follow up on the successful one held at Butler University in June 2006. The emphasis this time, however, will be on teaching music history to students of music performance and composition, both in conservatories and in music programs of liberal arts colleges.
The Institute seeks to attract participants who are graduate students in music (musicology, music theory, performance, composition), colleagues recently employed in academe and encountering the teaching of music history as a significant challenge, veteran teachers in need of freshening up and learning new methodologies, and colleagues who had not been preparing to teach music history but who have been asked to do so.
