The Second Annual Symposium of the University of Florida Student Society for Musicology

“Performance and the Creative Process”
Date: April 12th, 2008
Place: University of Florida School of Music Building

The University of Florida Student Society for Musicology will host its second annual symposium on Saturday, April 12th at the Music Building. This year’s theme is “Performance and the Creative Process” and we are currently accepting submissions of abstracts until Monday, March 3rd. We seek to further the understanding of the creative process, broadly defined as original artistic production. The creative process, in a multitude of different ways, is embedded in the way we compose music, choreograph dance, program video games, write poetry, etc. For this year’s symposium, we seek to explore the ramifications of performance on/in/through the creative process.

Descriptive and/or theoretical submissions for papers will be considered equally. Paper presentations will be limited to twenty minutes, followed by ten minutes of discussion. Video submissions, as well as proposals for live performances, are also welcome, subject to time/venue availability. Interdisciplinary submissions are strongly encouraged, especially those from literary studies, history, political science, religion, anthropology, visual arts, theatre, and dance. Please limit abstract length to 250 words, including any equipment requirements and send to Brian Holder (brian138 at ufl.edu).
