The Society for American Music is pleased to announce that information and registration is now available for our upcoming conference in Denver, Colorado 18 - 22 March 2009, hosted by Metropolitan State College of Denver.

The conference will take place at the Denver Marriott City Center, nearby the lively 16th Street Mall and close to the Denver Art Museum. Details for the conference may be found at: www.american-music.org. Online registration is available using PayPal or electronic check (through US bank).

The main themes of the conferenceNative American music and music in the Westare very well represented on the program. No less than seven sessions will be devoted to Native American/First Nations/Indigenous musical traditions of the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Sessions devoted to topics as wide-ranging as Cage and Sousa, Canadian composers, popular music in Los Angeles, Colorado music, Julius Eastman and experimental music, 18th- and 19th-century repertories, and musical theater also appear on the program. The diversity and depth of American music research as represented on the 2009 SAM program is truly exciting. In addition, we have several special events and tours planned for the weekend, including an opportunity to visit the Denver Pow Wow, which is being held the same weekend.

We hope you will join us at this important conference open to all with an interest in American music, and look forward to welcoming you to Denver!
