Call for Papers: Boston University Music Society, Annual Graduate Student Music Conference

Saturday, March 28, 2009

The Boston University Music Society (BUMS), a graduate student association for academic research in the fields of Musicology, Ethnomusicology, and Music Theory, invites abstract submissions for our second annual graduate student conference. We welcome papers on music-related research from a variety of approaches, including, but not limited to, socio-cultural, analytical, historical, and interdisciplinary perspectives. Each presentation should be 20 minutes in length, to be followed by a 10-minute Q&A session.

We are pleased to have Dr. Kiri Miller as our keynote speaker. Dr. Miller, Assistant Professor of Music at Brown University, will be speaking on her research into musical technocultures, tentatively titled: "Virtual Virtuosity and Mediated Musicality: Why Guitar Hero Players Don't Just Play Real Guitars."

Please send an abstract of no more than 250 words-along with a brief cover letter that includes your name, telephone number, university affiliation, and student status to bums at bu.edu.

Deadline for abstracts is January 9th, 2009. Notification of acceptance will occur by January 23rd.

Any questions should be directed to bums at bu.edu. Current information on BUMS and the graduate conference can be found at http://people.bu.edu/bums/.
