Post-doctoral Fellow in Musicology in the School of Humanities (Music) (Ref.: RF-2007/2008-685)
Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow in Musicology in the School of Humanities (Music), from as soon as possible for a period of two years (on a non-renewable basis). Applicants must have obtained a Ph.D. degree within the last three years and should specialize in popular music in China. Preference will be given to candidates with (1) a record of research on the relationship between popular music, religion, and Chinese ethnicities, (2) a demonstrated commitment to inter-disciplinary work, (3) a research profile that will contribute to the University's leadership in the study of cultural exchanges between East and West.
The appointee will be given office accommodation and administrative support in the department of music, which offers a diverse programme of study covering composition, music technology, music criticism and theory, film music, Western music history, popular music, and world music. The appointee will be expected to devote the majority of time to research, particularly to producing publications, and participate in research seminars. Annual salary will be in the range of HK$250,260 482,400 (approximately US$1 = HK$ 7.8) (subject to review from time to time at the entire discretion of the University), with starting salary depending on qualifications and experience. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 16% of gross income. Annual leave and medical/dental benefits will be provided.
