Dear colleagues,

I am very pleased to announce an interdisciplinary opera conference entitled "Opera and Society" to be held at Boston University on April 18-19 in the Marshall Room of the BU School of Music.  The conference will include eminent scholars from the US and Europe in musicology, music theory, history, and theater, in addition to a discussion among contemporary opera composers.  One special guest will be Gottfried Wagner, great-grandson of Richard (and great-great-grandson of Franz), who has written several controversial works about his family's relationship with the Nazis.
