The School of Music at Penn State University is pleased to announce a lecture and organ concert by Jon Gillock in celebration of the 2008 Messiaen Centenary. Dr. Gillock will lecture on the life and music of Olivier Messiaen, noting his relationship to the composer as student and friend, at 11:15 a.m. on Monday, April 7, in room 110, Music Building I on the Penn State campus. On Tuesday, April 8, Dr. Gillock will play an all-Messiaen concert (Le Banquet céleste, Apparition de l'Église éternelle, and La Nativité du Seigneur) on the school's Letourneau organ in the Worship Hall of the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center at 8:00 p.m. The concert will be preceded by a lecture on Messiaen's organ music by Dr. Vincent Benitez, a member of the Penn State music faculty, at 7:30 p.m. The public is cordially invited to both events.
