San José State University - Creative Arts (Subject to Budgetary Approval)

Rank: Assistant Professor, Tenure Track

Qualifications: Ph.D. in one of the arts, with inter- or multi-disciplinary specializations; Professional publication and/or exhibition/performance record; Administrative and advising experience preferred; University or college teaching experience required; Commitment to undergraduate education; Demonstrated cross-cultural experience and/or training; and Experience in some category of arts technology preferred. Applicants should have awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience

Responsibilities: Coordinate the Creative Arts program (housed in the Humanities Department); Elevate the public visibility of the program and shape its development; Extend curriculum for Creative Arts involving both practice of arts and general education; Advise Creative Arts majors; Coordinate Creative Arts program with other programs across the campus and within the Humanities Department; Maintain working relationships with practitioners and scholars of the arts in other departments across campus; Teach Humanities department courses; Service to the department, college and university; Fundraising/grant application activities; Student recruitment; Candidate must address the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation – through course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.

Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Starting Date: August 21, 2008
