Position in Composition and Music Theory 

The Department of Music at the College of the Holy Cross invites applications for a full-time tenure-
track appointment in music theory and composition to begin in August 2008. Primary duties will 
include courses in the four-semester theory sequence required of all music majors. Applicants with a
secondary area of specialization in Computer Music, American Music, and/or Popular Music will be 
given special preference. Other teaching responsibilities will include specialized courses and tutorials 
on topics in composition and analysis, as well as introductory and intermediate courses designed for 
non-majors. Candidates should hold either a Ph.D. or D.M.A. in composition with demonstrated 
expertise in theory, or a Ph.D. in theory with demonstrated expertise in composition. Candidates 
must demonstrate commitment to, and excellence in, undergraduate teaching as well as artistic and/or 
scholarly achievement. 

As a department in which scholarship and artistic achievement are equally valued, we seek a 
composer/theorist/musician who shares our commitment to a liberal arts curriculum. We welcome
candidates with varying interests who will build bridges to the wider campus community by 
participating in college-wide programs, such as the First Year Experience, First Year Program, and the 
College Honors Program. 

This position carries a 3-2 teaching load with a full-salary, one-semester research leave prior to tenure 
review and generous sabbatical and fellowship leaves for senior faculty. Please send a cover letter
