*ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN MUSICOLOGY History of Opera & Musical Theater*
The Program in Performing Arts at Georgetown University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in musicology at the rank of assistant professor. We seek a candidate who can augment the strengths of departmental colleagues and has the potential to develop an international reputation in the field of musicology. The Ph.D. in musicology is required and must be in hand by the start of the appointment. Specialization in European opera and American musical theater is required, preferably with additional research interests or teaching experience in music theory, sacred music, Italian studies and/or the Jesuit tradition. Responsibilities include maintaining an active research profile, teaching undergraduate courses (including seminars) to both music majors and non-majors, advising undergraduate theses and internships, assisting in the development of a study-abroad program for music students, as well as committee and service responsibilities.
Start date: August 1, 2008
Salary: Competitive, depending on the qualifications of the candidate.
