Associate Dean for the Arts

The College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a position with rank and tenure status open, beginning in Fall 2008. Applicants should hold the appropriate terminal degree in an arts discipline represented at American University (studio art, art history, graphic design, multimedia, theatre/music theatre, music, and arts management). Excellence in teaching and in scholarly, creative, and/or professional activities required. Experience in both academic and professional settings preferred. Demonstrated leadership abilities are required.  Responsibilities include teaching in the academic program, coordination of arts activities, fostering inter- and multi-disciplinary academic and public programs, fundraising and grants development and oversight of arts facilities.

American University has recently opened new arts facilities. The College of Arts and Sciences is one of six schools and colleges at American University. The departments of Art and Performing Arts offer programs leading to the bachelor's degree (fine arts, art history, graphic design, multimedia, theatre, music theatre, and music), the master's degree (arts management, art history), and the MFA degree (studio art).
