University at Buffalo (SUNY), Music Department
Full-time, tenure-track position in Musicology at the rank of Assistant Professor.
We are seeking a candidate who both shows exceptional promise as an individually-minded scholar and is also in possession of a fluent pedagogical style. Ph.D. should be in hand by 15 August 2008.
Departmental duties will include the teaching of two classes per semester, at undergraduate and graduate levels, as appropriate; participation on doctoral committees in the Historical Musicology, Music Theory and Music Composition Ph.D. programs; student advisement; and other committee obligations. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ongoing commitment to the development of a body of scholarly work beyond the scope of their dissertation research. No single area of specialization is targeted, but the Department is especially interested in scholars working in musical repertories of the late-nineteenth and twentieth centuries including, but not limited to: the late twentieth-century American or European avant- garde, opera, popular musics and media; those whose approaches to any repertory are especially cognizant of musical representations of race, class, ethnicity, gender, or sexuality; and candidates whose work will likely complement the perspectives and specialties
of cu
rrent faculty.
Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Review and screening of applications will begin on 1 December 2007.
Applications must be submitted on-line, at the following address: http://www.ubjobs.buffalo.edu
