The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Department of Music presents:

THE CRITICS SPEAK
A public conversation with
Tim Page (The Washington Post) &
Anthony Tommasini (The New York Times)

Sunday, 14 October 2007
Hill Hall Auditorium
7:30pm

Co-sponsored by the Institute for the Arts & Humanities and The School of Journalism & Mass Communication

THE CRITICS SPEAK brings two of the country's leading music journalists together to discuss the place of music and music criticism in America today. As the title suggests, this is not a lecture, but rather a public conversation. With Page as interlocutor, the two critics discuss a wide variety of topics, such as the role of the critic in American musical life, the health of the American orchestra, the state of music education, newspaper criticism and the internet, and the classical music recording business. The floor will be open for questions and comments from the audience.
