Saturday, April 12th, 2008
Boston University's student association for academic research in the fields of Musicology, Ethnomusicology, and Music Theory invites graduate student abstracts for presentations on Music in America. We welcome papers from a variety of approaches, including, but not limited to, socio-cultural, analytical, historical, and interdisciplinary perspectives. Each presentation should be 20 minutes in length, to be followed by a 10-minute Q&A session.
We are pleased to have Dr. Wayne Marshall as our keynote speaker. Dr. Marshall is currently the Florence Levy Kay Fellow in Ethnomusicology at Brandeis University, as well as an active laptop DJ in the Boston area, whose work revolves around Reggae, Hip-Hop, and the mixing of musical cultures in America.
Please send an abstract of no more than 250 words-along with a brief cover letter that includes your name, telephone number, university affiliation, and student status-to Alex Abdoulaev at bums_at_bu.edu.
Deadline for abstracts is January 5th, 2007.
Any questions should be directed to Alex at bums_at_bu.edu. Current information on BUMS and the graduate conference can be found at http://people.bu.edu/bums/.
