Call for Papers: English Cathedral Music: The Long Nineteenth Century to the Present
The Royal Musical Association, Durham University, and the Centre for 19th-Century Music announce a Study Day on English Cathedral Music From the Long Nineteenth Century to the Present, to be held at Durham University, Department of Music, Palace Green, DH1 3RL, July 9th, 2008. This study day will consider all aspects of the English cathedral music tradition from the long nineteenth century to the present, especially explorations of its qualities as a musical tradition and its unique place in both national and religious identity. The keynote speaker will be Timothy Day (King's College London). Concluding the Study Day will be Choral Evensong in Durham Cathedral followed by a Conference Dinner (costs and details to be announced). On the next day, the Centre for 19th-Century Music will begin its July 10-13 conference (http://www.dur.ac.uk/19thc.music/projects/), also at Durham University, on Performing Romantic Music. This conference will include Choral Evensong in the Cath
edral
that draws from Nineteenth-Century repertoire and an organ concert.

Abstracts for the English cathedral music Study Day of no more than 250 words are invited for 20 minute papers. Please send abstracts as soon as possible but no later than 29th February 2008 to John-Bede Pauley jpauley_at_ju.edu, including the paper title, whether it falls among one of the suggested topics, contact details, and affiliation.
