The Department of Music at the College of the Holy Cross invites
applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment in music theory
and composition to begin in August 2008. Primary duties will include
courses in the four-semester theory sequence required of all music
majors. Applicants with a secondary area of specialization in Computer
Music, American Music, and/or Popular Music will be given special
preference. Other teaching responsibilities will include specialized
courses and tutorials on topics in composition and analysis, as well
as introductory and intermediate courses designed for non-majors.
Candidates should hold either a Ph.D. or D.M.A. in composition with
demonstrated
expertise in theory, or a Ph.D. in theory with demonstrated expertise
in composition. Candidates must demonstrate commitment to, and
excellence in, undergraduate teaching as well as artistic and/or
scholarly achievement.
As a department in which scholarship and artistic achievement are
equally valued, we seek a composer/theorist/musician who shares our
commitment to a liberal arts curriculum. We welcome candidates with
varying interests who will build bridges to the wider campus community
by participating in college-wide programs, such as the First Year
Experience, First Year Program, and the College Honors Program.
This position carries a 3-2 teaching load with a full-salary,
one-semester research leave prior to tenure review and generous
sabbatical and fellowship leaves for senior faculty. Please send a
cover letter describing research and teaching interests, curriculum
vitae, statement on teaching, transcripts and three letters of
recommendation to:
