Position 1:

The University of Texas School of Music invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured position in the Musicology/Ethnomusicology Division at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The successful applicant will have a research specialization in the area of North American music. Candidates should demonstrate an ability to teach courses that will reinforce, complement, and expand our curricular offerings, and to contribute to initiatives in American music scholarship, teaching, and public outreach in conjunction with the University's Center for American Music. We are especially interested in scholars with specialization in the cultivated/art tradition who are able to teach courses on a wide range of North American repertories.
 
Responsibilities of the position begin in fall, 2008, and will include active research and publication; teaching courses for non-majors, undergraduate majors, and special-topic graduate seminars; service on graduate committees; supervision of Master's reports, Ph.D. dissertations, and D.M.A. lecture-recitals and treatises; and may include ensemble coordination, as appropriate. Position available pending funding.  Security sensitive position; background check conducted on applicant selected.

Candidates should demonstrate an ability to teach courses that will reinforce, complement, and expand our curricular offerings, and to engage with the Center for American Music and University-wide centers, and interdisciplinary programs that intersect with the goals of the School of Music, including an appointment to the faculty of African and African-American Studies. We are especially interested in scholars who are able to teach courses on a wide range of African-American musics.
