School of Music
SENIOR LECTURER (WESTERN MUSIC) IN HISTORICAL PERFORMANCE PRACTICE
(HK$40,055 - HK$59,580 per month)
The postholder would teach both graduate and undergraduate students majoring in the performance of Western Music, guiding their knowledge of different performance styles and periods. Practical experience of eighteenth-century historical performance practices would be very important, and a particular emphasis would also be placed on the planning, coaching and coordination of chamber music. In addition to teaching courses on performance practice and repertoire studies at the MMus degree level, the postholder would also be expected to contribute to the BMus(Hons) and Diploma programmes by coaching chamber music and teaching music history. Additional pedagogical and administrative duties would be assigned according to the appointee's specialist skills and experience.
Required Qualifications are:
(a) a Doctoral Degree in Music or equivalent qualification. Significant professional credentials and international performing experience may be acceptable in lieu of formal qualifications;
(b) tertiary level teaching experience;
(c) broad professional experience as a harpsichordist, continuo player and/or fortepianist would be an asset, as would experience of vocal coaching; and
(d) good communication skills in English. Knowledge of Chinese would be an advantage.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
Appointment will be from 1 September 2008 on a two-year contract, with possibility of renewal, subject to mutual agreement. A gratuity payment equal up to 15% of basic salary earned during the contract period will be payable upon satisfactory completion of contract. Fringe benefits include leave, medical, and dental benefits. Housing subsidy will be provided to the eligible appointee. Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The current standard rate of income tax in Hong Kong is 16%. Current exchange rate is =A31 to HK$15.9 and US$1 to HK$7.8.
