POSITION ONE

The Florida State University College of Music invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Musicology (Ethnomusicology), to begin in August 2008.

Rank/Salary: Tenure-track position. Competitive salary.

Qualifications: Ph.D. required. Teaching experience, record of research, and evidence for continuing research career. Specialization in any area will be considered; preference given to candidates whose areas complement the current strengths of the ethnomusicology faculty, and possibly to candidates with specializations in Latin American/Caribbean areas. Ability to direct a world music ensemble (within the context of a large world music ensemble program) will be a significant asset. Interest and outstanding experience in teaching music to non-music majors is highly desirable.

POSITION TWO

The Florida State University College of Music invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Musicology (Historical Musicology), to begin in August 2008.

Qualifications: Ph.D. required; evidence of successful university teaching experience required; an ongoing agenda of research and publication is
essential. Expertise in one or more areas that complement the current faculty, such as Early Music, Gender Studies, Media Studies, or Dance Studies, is desirable. Interest and outstanding experience in teaching music to non-music majors will be an important asset.

Responsibilities: Responsibilities will include teaching assignments from among the core undergraduate music history and literature courses,
upper-level classes for both undergraduates and graduate students, undergraduate honors seminars, and specialized graduate seminars in musicology, in addition to directing thesis and dissertation research. The successful applicant will be one who can work within a cooperative and collaborative Musicology area.
