Faculty Vacancy, Fall 2008:  *Music Composition*. 
 
Duties:  Duties will include teaching, advising and mentoring students, 
engaging in community outreach, and working with other faculty to shape 
a growing BA program in music, with strong interdisciplinary components, 
within a liberal arts environment.  Teaching load is generally five 
courses per year, at all levels of the undergraduate program, with a 
one-course reduction in first, third, and fifth years.  Faculty at 
Rutgers University are expected to develop and to maintain a strong 
level of nationally-recognized, peer-reviewed scholarship/artistic 
achievement, to be an effective teacher and to contribute to the 
department, college and university through appropriate service. 
 
Qualifications:  1. A PhD, DMA, or equivalent in Music Composition.  2. 
Evidence of successful record of accomplishment in music composition and 
experience in either professional or academic contexts.  3.  At least 2 
years successful teaching experience at the college level beyond the 
TA.  Preferred qualifications include a nationally recognized level of 
achievement in music composition, and teaching experience at a 
university or college beyond the required minimum of 2 years.  The 
ability to teach a diverse range of music courses in a Bachelor of Arts 
context is also a plus.  Demonstrated organizational ability and 
interest in community outreach will also be viewed as positive factors.
 
Rank:  Assistant Professor (full-time, tenure track), salary 
commensurate with qualifications and experience. 
 
Starting Date:  July 1, 2008
