VACANT POSITION
DIRECTOR, ROBERT E. BROWN CENTER FOR WORLD MUSIC
Starting Date Negotiable.
Duties Serve as the founding director of the University of Illinois School of Musics new center for the study and performance of world music. Responsible for the development, artistic direction, and administration of the Centers programs including instruction, performances, research and outreach activities, and student recruitment. Oversee and administer the Centers budget and fund-raising efforts, particularly writing grant proposals. Hire and supervise staff. Recruit guest artists and visiting faculty internationally for Center programs, performances, and instruction. Promote the Center internationally by initiating and fostering international collaborations. Serve as Curator of collection items; arrange displays and exhibits. Actively communicate, collaborate, and interact with UIUC faculty and staff, as well as with local and regional schools and cultural institutions. Teach Music courses related to area of expertise.
Rank and Salary Regular, full-time academic professional position with additional appointment as non-tenure-track Assistant Professor; salary based on qualifications and experience.
Qualifications Master of Music degree required; doctorate or equivalent professional experience preferred. Background in ethnomusicology and associated scholarly activity, with broad knowledge of the worlds major musical traditions required. Substantial experience directing a staff and administering similar programs and demonstrated success in grant-writing and/or fund-raising required. Experience teaching college-level Music courses preferred.
