Schubert Society of the USA
March, 2007
I have the distinct honor to announce that University Professor Dr. MANFRED
WAGNER has joined the Advisory Board of the Schubert Society of the USA as
Corresponding Member for Austria. Since 1974, Prof. Wagner has been the
Chair of the Department for the History of Culture and Mind at the Universita:t
fu:r angewandte Kunst / University of Applied Arts Vienna. His very prestigious
Curriculum Vitae speaks to his broad range of scholarship and his activities
in and beyond academia that have brought him significant recognition with
prizes and honors in Austria and abroad. In 2006, he was awarded the Silver
Commander-Cross of Lower Austria.
His important contributions to the fine arts, history, cultural policies and
music scholarship are reflected in his presidency of the International
Schoenberg Society, his memberships in national and international organizations
such as the European Academy of Arts and Sciences, and his editorship of the
three-volume Niedero:sterreich. Eine Kulturgeschichte von 1861 bis heute (Bu:hlau
Verlag, 2004-2006).
For a fuller review of Prof. Wagner's accomplishments, I recommend readers
to see his Curriculum Vitae (brief version, in German and English) at his page
on the University of Applied Arts' website at:
