All aspects of our musical lives are undergoing profound transformations.
Globalization, changing social structures, new media and technologies,
insights from cognitive neuroscience, and new understandings of music's role
in the formation of culture and identity, are presenting extraordinary
challenges and opportunities for music educators, scholars, composers, and
performers.
What are the skills, methodologies, and theoretical models students will
need in the coming decades to become active and engaged members and leaders
of their local and global musical communities? How can new partnerships
between musical disciplines, institutions, and organizations respond
productively to the changing musical landscape?
As we plan for the future of our department of music in its new home, Tufts
University invites you to join music leaders from Boston and surrounding
areas to explore these issues and to consider new possibilities for the
place of music in the university and the broader life of the community.
