DEAN OF ARTS

The University of California, Santa Cruz seeks a Dean of Arts. The UC Santa Cruz campus is recognized as an outstanding research university, combining multidisciplinary scholarship and innovative research with a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education. The Division of the Arts offers technical training, aesthetic development, and historical, theoretical, and critical studies in art, history of art and visual culture, dance, design/technology, drama, film/video, and music to all undergraduates as well as to undergraduate majors and graduate students. 
The Arts Division offers the following departments and associated programs: Art, Digital Arts and New Media, Film and Digital Media, History of Art and Visual Culture, Music, Theater Arts, Arts Bridge, the Center for Art and Visual Studies, Sesnon Gallery, and Shakespeare Santa Cruz. 
The mission of the arts in education derives from their special modes of thinking and contributions to human experience and achievement. Often transcending verbal and mathematical conventions, the arts involve unique ways of knowing, understanding, expressing, communicating, and creating. The successful candidate will provide intellectual, academic, and administrative leadership for the Arts Division and will report to the Campus Provost/Executive Vice Chancellor. We seek an individual with the following qualifications: 

• An outstanding record of scholarly achievement appropriate for appointment as Professor in the UC system 
• Demonstrated academic administrative leadership 
• Ability to foster collaboration within the division and throughout the campus 
• Ability to communicate effectively with administrators, faculty, students, and staff 
• Potential for success in fundraising and securing external support 
• Appreciation for the mission and responsibilities of a research university serving a multi-ethnic state and a demonstrated commitment to diversity 

The Dean of the Arts Division participates in shared governance together with the campus administration and faculty-led Academic Senate. Deans are appointed to the Senior Management Program. This position is subject to the financial disclosure requirements of the California Political Reform Act of 1974 and requires fingerprinting. 

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
