*Announcement of a Faculty Position in Musicology*
The University of Minnesota, located in Minneapolis-St. Paul, is a major
research university of 60,000 students and nearly 2,500 faculty. With
the completion of the new Regis Center for Art, the Universitys West
Bank Arts Quarter came into existence, placing the disciplines of music,
art, dance, and theater within one block of each other in a unique
physical and collaborative environment. The School of Music, part of the
College of Liberal Arts, serves more than 600 majors in degree programs
from bachelors to doctorate.
The School of Music is located in one of America's most vibrant music
learning laboratories, with the Twin Cities offering outstanding music
performance opportunities by the Minnesota Orchestra, St. Paul Chamber
Orchestra, Minnesota Opera, Plymouth Music Series, Minnesota Chorale,
Walker Art Center, Guthrie Theatre, Rose Ensemble, Lyra Consort, as well

Position: Full-time, nine-month position in musicology at the rank of
assistant professor, tenure track.
Responsibilities: Maintain a research program of professional
distinction. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses (including
seminars) to be arranged according to the candidates expertise and the
curricular needs of the School of Music. Advise students and supervise
theses and dissertations. The normal teaching assignment is two courses
per semester, together with advising, committee, and service
responsibilities.
Salary: Competitive, depending on the qualifications of the candidate.
Required Qualifications: The Ph.D. in musicology is required and must be
in hand by the start of the appointment. Specialization in music before
1600 is required, preferably with additional interests and experience in
early music performance. The School seeks a candidate of intellectual
and musical breadth who can augment the strengths of departmental
colleagues and has the potential to develop a national/international
reputation in the field of musicology.
Preferred Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a
developing publication and research record, as well as a record of
successful teaching experience. He/she will be reviewed on the quality
of scholarship, teaching of graduate and undergraduate courses, the
reputation of publication outlets, expertise in relevant field, and
other contributions to the profession.
