Call For Papers
AMS MIDWEST SPRING MEETING, 24-25 MARCH 2007
Hosted by Miami University (Oxford, Ohio)
Eftychia Papanikolaou, Local Arrangements

PROPOSAL DEADLINE: Sunday, February 4, 2006, 11:59 p.m. E.S.T.

Program Committee
1. Vincent Corrigan, chair, Bowling Green State University (Ohio)
(Do not send abstracts directly to chair--see below)
2. David Kidger, Oakland University (Michigan)
3. Eftychia Papanikolaou, Miami University (Ohio)

Proposal Instructions
Chapter members are invited to submit abstracts of papers on any subject to the Program Committee (instructions below). Proposals for sessions or presentations in innovative formats are welcome as are proposals on teaching music history. The abstract is limited to a maximum of 500 words. Abstracts should explain the originality, methodology, and conclusions of the paper. In addition, the proposal must specify any audio-visual equipment needed, as well as the time required to deliver the paper (papers of 20-25 minutes are the norm). Preference will be given to proposals from individuals who have not read a paper at AMS Midwest within the year prior to the spring 2007 meeting (i.e., in fall or spring 2006 meetings). Note: The submission of an abstract presupposes that the proposer agrees to present the paper should the Program Committee accept it. See Chapter website for general guidelines for AMS Midwest paper proposals.

Panel Sessions
Panels of up to one hour in length, discussing aspects of a single topic, may be proposed. Two or three panelists might participate. Although only one abstract is required, it should contain a succinct description of each panelist's contribution and state the time required.

Student Paper Competition
Students wishing to compete for the annual prizes offered by Indiana University Press and A-R Editions should so indicate in the letter covering the signed abstract or on the online submission form (see below). In order to be considered, students must submit three copies of the complete paper to the Program Committee no later than the meeting at which they read the paper. Winners of the awards will be announced after the Spring 2007 meeting. Student travel funds are also available for students who are giving papers at Chapter meetings (see website for details).

Membership Requirements
You must be a registered AMS Midwest Chapter member in order to be eligible to present papers at Chapter meetings. If you are not presently a Chapter member, please join online or contact Chapter Treasurer Mary Paquette-Abt at <m_paquette-abt at wayne.edu>. There is no additional registration fee for Chapter meetings.

Abstract Submission
There are several submission options, but online and email submissions are encouraged.

Option A-Online and Email
Go to the online proposal form on the Chapter website. Fill in the form completely and click the submit button. Your proposal will be processed automatically. To avoid changes in formatting, send one blind abstract, and one signed abstract, as Word (.doc) or .pdf attachments to Chapter President Mary Natvig at amsmidwestpresident at umich.edu. If you are unable to send attachments directly, you may cut and paste your abstract directly into the online submission form.

You should receive a confirmation e-mail form the Chapter President within three days. If you do not receive a confirmation, please contact the President or resubmit your proposal. The President will send all proposals as blind submissions to the Program Committee. Do not send your proposal directly to the program committee.

Option B-U.S. Mail
Send three blind abstracts, i.e., without any personal identification, and one signed abstract to the Chapter President at the address below. The President will forward blind copies to the Program Committee.

SEND both abstracts (blind and signed) to:
Mary Natvig-AMS Midwest President
College of Musical Arts
BGSU
Bowling Green, Ohio 43403
or via email at amsmidwestpresident at umich.edu

Results
You will be contacted by the Chapter President with the program committee's decision by mid-February. Note that the Chapter President is not part of the review process, but retains the signed copy of each proposal to connect successful applicants with their abstracts.

Thank you for your interest in the upcoming meeting of the AMS Midwest Chapter.
