Call for submission

Thurnau Award for Music Theatre Studies 2007/.

 Submissions are now being accepted for the /Thurnau Award for Music
 Theatre Studies/ for young scholars. The Thurnau Institute for Music
 Theatre Studies at Bayreuth University in Germany (Forschungsinstitut
 fur Musiktheater -- FIMT) is an internationally unique research
 institution focusing on music theatre. The Institute is housed in the
 beautiful castle of Thurnau and located in the province of Franconia
 (within the State of Bavaria). It is in close proximity to the annual
 Bayreuth Wagner Festival. Thurnau boasts a library with a world renowned
 music theatre collection, welcomes scholars from all over the world and
 offers an ideal setting to explore a diversity of approaches to the
 field of music theatre studies.

 The introduction of the /Thurnau Award for Music Theatre Studies/ aims
 to set a new standard in scholastic excellence with this competition and
 is looking for an essay on any relevant topic dealing with music theatre
 in its broadest definition. Investigations of all genres and phenomenon
 on music theatre are welcome; from Opera to Musical, from Vaudeville or
 Revue to (Musical) Film, from Ballet to contemporary dance, from the
 analysis of performance to the study of scores or librettos.

 We are looking for modern, creative and outstanding scholarship in music
 theatre studies, trying to encourage interesting topics in neglected
 fields of research as well as new methodological approaches. Please send
 in your stimulating academic article from 10-15 pages either in English
 or German. The article may just be prepared for publication or already
 be published (not longer than 2 years ago).

 The Award consists of a cash gift of 1500,- =E2=82=AC and of an invitation
to
 the Thurnau Institute for the celebration of its 30th anniversary in
 November 2007, where the award will be presented to the winner November
 23. The winner will also be asked to be contributing to the planned
 /Bayreuth// Summer Symposium for Music Theatre Studies 2008/.

 Young Scholars working on their PhD or just finished their PhD from
 around the world are welcome to send in their scripts. Please submit a
 xerox copy or a print out of your article as well as a CV und a
 publication list, postmarked no later than April 30. The decision will
 be made by an international jury and you will be notified of the jury's
 decision in summer 2007.
