"A Day in the Life - Sgt Pepper at 40"
A study day considering popular music's most celebrated recording
University of Leeds
Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

Papers/presentations/interviews/discussion
Call for Papers: Proposals are invited for this event on the theme of
Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, released by the Beatles in June
1967.
Approaches may range from the compositional to the cultural, the
historical to the sociological, the musicological to the technological.
They might contemplate the album as a symbol of its time or as an
artefact that still resonates four decades on, as creative masterpiece
or as ill-conceived dalliance with the realm of art.
Submissions (c200-300 words in length) should be made to Simon Warner,
Director of PopuLUs, the Centre for the Study of the World's Popular
Musics, University of Leeds, by April 20th, 2007 via:

Note: The Peter Blake Music Art Gallery in the School of Music features
the only signed, fine art print of the artist's cover for Sgt Pepper's
Lonely Hearts Club Band on public display, and will be available to view
on the day.
