CMS - NASM National Conference on Music in General Studies

November 17 - 18, 2007

Grand America Hotel - Salt Lake City, Utah

The College Music Society and National Association of Schools of Music
will hold their 2007 National Conferences in Salt Lake City, Utah,
November 15 - 20, 2007.  In conjunction with this, CMS and NASM will
hold a special National Conference on Music in General Studies on
Saturday afternoon, November 17, and Sunday morning, November 18.

Call for Program Participation

The Program Committee for this special conference solicits proposals for
sessions devoted to (a) "Content and Pedagogical Techniques of Music in
General Studies" and (b) "Philosophy and Mission Music in General
Studies."  Of special interest are presentations on innovative
approaches to reaching nonprofessionals (for example, community outreach
programs), as well as efforts that yield particular success in the
traditional classroom (for example, Music Appreciation courses).  Also
of interest are presentations that call attention to problems or issues
related to teaching or administering Music in General Studies.

Please consider sharing your experiences, and joining us in exploring
ways to reach out to this very important audience!  Two types of
presentations will be considered:

Individual papers and lecture-performances are limited to 25 minutes.


Collaborative presentations -- including clinics, demonstrations,
interdisciplinary lecture-recitals, panels, performances, and workshops
-- are limited to 55 minutes.

Application Process

Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit proposals online at

or request a copy from the CMS Executive Office.

Online submissions must be completed on Saturday, March 31, 2007.
Mailed submissions must be postmarked by Saturday, March 31, 2007.

If accepted, all presenters and co-presenters, including accompanists,
panelists, and panel moderators, must register for the full conference.
