The Society for American Music is pleased to announce that it is now
accepting applications for its annual Wiley Housewright Dissertation
Award. The Wiley Housewright Dissertation Award is designed to
recognize a single dissertation on American music for its exceptional
depth, clarity, significance, and overall contribution to the field.
"American" is understood here to embrace all of North America,
including Central America and the Caribbean, and aspects of its
cultures elsewhere in the world.

Dissertations from American Studies, American history, and other
fields beyond theory, musicology, and ethnomusicology are welcome as
long as the primary focus of the work is a musical topic, the
dissertation is in English, and was completed between 1 January and
31 December, 2006.

15, 2007:

the entire piece of scholarship is included in a written document
(musical compositions or other materials will not be considered).

Applicants should include a full mailing address, phone number, and
email address (where an acknowledgement will be sent), the title of
the work, university, department, date, and major advisor. Please do
not mail the complete dissertation at this time.
