The 2008 Don Wright Faculty of Music Graduate Student Symposium will take place at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, Canada, 2-4 May 2008. The symposium began as a forum to foster graduate research in all areas of music. We encourage presentations on any topic from the fields of musicology, music theory, ethnomusicology, and music education.
This year, we are pleased to have Prof. Sherry Lee of the University of Toronto as our keynote speaker. Prof. Lee's research and teaching interests are focused in the 19th and 20th centuries; she specializes in the music of Wagner, Mahler, Schoenberg, Schreker, Zemlinsky, and Britten, and the musical thought of Adorno.
We invite all interested graduate students to submit abstracts of their work electronically. The deadline for submission is February 1, 2008.
All submissions will be acknowledged within a week of the deadline; the Program Committee will make their decisions by early March to allow for presenters to make travel plans.
Abstracts will be judged anonymously. Papers should be approximately 30 minutes long. A 15-minute question period will follow each presentation.
Please note the following requirements:
1. Attach your abstract (maximum 400 words) as a Word document without personal identification.
2. Incorporate your abstract into the body of the email along with your name, address, telephone number, and academic affiliation.
3. In the subject field of your email, please write: "Symposium Abstract Submission."
Abstracts may be sent to Kristina Baron-Woods, symposium co-chair, at
