FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY.  The School of Music at Florida International University invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor of Music Theory.  

Responsibilities will involve teaching courses in the four-semester theory and aural-skills sequences required of all music majors, coordinating theory placement tests and teaching assistants, and participating in the musical and academic life of the School of Music.  Other duties may include teaching more advanced undergraduate and graduate courses, such as Counterpoint, Graduate Theory Review, Orchestration, and Form and Analysis.  Candidates must hold either a Ph.D. with a specialization in Theory, or a Ph.D. or D.M.A. in Composition with demonstrated expertise in Theory.  They must have experience teaching theory at the college level and the potential to achieve national and international recognition as a scholar.  

Salary:  Commensurate with qualifications and experience.  
Start Date:  August 14, 2008.
