Title: Assistant or Associate Professor of Musicology
Position Description: Full-time tenure-accruing faculty position. Nine-month contract.
Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in musicology and music history; develop new course offerings to support an expanding and integrated graduate program in Musicology/Ethnomusicology; collaborate with colleagues across disciplinary boundaries; direct theses and dissertations; engage in research and scholarly activities appropriate for an AAU research institution; share in School of Music governance responsibilities.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in Music (musicology) required. Primary specialization in 19th and 20th century music with secondary research interests complementary to a graduate program in Musicology/Ethnomusicology. Record of scholarly research activity with potential for national and international profile as a scholar. Demonstrated teaching experience at the college level.
Rank and Salary: Salary is competitive with appropriate rank (Assistant or Associate Professor)
Appointment: Duties will begin on August 12, 2007.
School of Music: The School of Music, organized within the College of Fine Arts, plays an important role in the academic and cultural life of the University and the community. The School has 35 full-time and six adjunct faculty, serving some 85 graduate and 200 undergraduate music majors. Degree programs include B.A., B.M., M.M., and the Ph.D in Music and in Music Education. Program emphases include performance, music education, theory, composition, music history and literature, ethnomusicology, conducting, and sacred music. All degree programs are accredited by NASM, NCATE, and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
